The art of deciding...

Have you ever felt as if you disliked the fact that you have been given the freedom of choice? It is something that I am experiencing in the depths of dilemma. Choosing to do what you think is best, might not always be what God knows is best for your life, but still, He gives you the freedom to choose in times of opportunities.

Opportunities do not just happen, you create them, yes, but it is usually through decision-making if you think about it. You choose mostly how your life will pan out with regards to important decisions throughout your life. From deciding to leave one school to go to another, for furthering your potential career with necessary subjects and experiences. Choosing to let go of a toxic relationship. Choosing to go to university to study a specific degree, or not. Deciding which job opportunities, you will grab a hold of and fight for, and choosing to love someone forever…

Wow, that went deep quick, but I want to emphasize that God’s will, might differ from ours, and this is what scares me, what if I make the wrong decision? Where are you at in your life choices? Do you also have to take dreams, people, and time into consideration before acting? Personally, this is the state of confusion and roller-coaster of emotions that have been on my journey this year, and still lurking.

What I do know is, that God will not lead us into a situation, without the needed provision. He promises to give us a hope, and a future, to prosper and not to harm us. (Jeremiah 28:11) This is evident in Nehemiah, where God used him to help rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. He was only a cupbearer, but God gave him the necessary confidence, power, and strategy to develop into a leader that pursued a bigger task than he could ever dream of creating himself.

David was only a shepherd’s boy, but God anointed him as a King. See the anointing came before the appointing. All in due time. Sometimes we are so hasty to know what to do, who to be, and where to go, but God does not only choose mediocre people like us, without handing us over the armor needed to survive the war we will be up against.

You might think like Moses, that you are not the right person for your dream, or what God is calling you to do. Maybe, you are distracted by what others think of you, or what you want to be identified as, misinterpreting His green light at your Jerusalem wall, as a red light for what you ought to pursue. Choices are like skin products, just because something is working for someone else, does not mean it will work for you, you might be allergic to the ingredients!

Joseph had the dream about his brothers bowing in front of him, years before it came to pass. Your life is not hanging on a string due to one decision. Keep in mind that you can and will make mistakes. But God is our refuge, if He is for us, who can be against us. He promises that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

Remember your armor my friend, and know that life is a battlefield, but that God’s peace surpasses all understanding. Truly seeking Him and His guidance during our decision-making process will create the honest answers we might need to face.

To the good, the bad, and the ugly decisions out there, may He provide us with wisdom throughout it all…

Lots of Love
